Blogging 101

This course was very enjoyable for me, I was able to grow as a writer and blogger. My most enjoyable project was the Linkedin assignment due to the fact that jobs actually emailed me after seeing my page that I updated.

My blog followers were also able to keep up with me via twitter to see what my daily rants were about.

I also enjoyed the green screen project because I was able to use my favorite thing, green screen magic. Myself along with Jordan and Laron decided to take a time warp back to the 90's to star on the hit show It's a Different World!

This course has pushed me creatively when it was time to create my Vine, 6 seconds isn't a lot of time so you have to be very clever in what you decide to do.

Kizao is a movie maker meshed together with power point features. It's good for interactive fun presentations such as the Bulldog Scavenger Hunt.

Kizao

Lastly  Prezi.  It's a major step up from power point presentations. It forces the user to be more visual, which I enjoy. However actually using it is a bit tough when its time to create your pathways. After a while I became a little frustrated but I still created my top 10 Beyonce' music videos.

I also had the freedom to say what I wanted to on certain topics. I definitely plan to blog in the future, its a good way to clear your mind and document events that are worth sharing! I hope everyone takes advantage of this class and the possible opportunities.

IT'S A DIFFERENT WORLD!

Our latest class assignment required us to use green screen! Personally I was excited because I know how fascinating green screens actually are. I chose to do A Different World for my green screen project because it's a show that I love and it inspired me to attend an HBCU. Above is my final project featuring two of my amazing classmates!

Hilary Clinton Visits South Carolina State University

On February 26, 2016 Hilary Clinton visited the campus of South Carolina State University to persuade students to cast their vote for her on Saturday February 27. The “Breaking Down Barriers” rally was held at 3:45pm in Dukes Gymnasium. Doors opened at 3:15pm and the Orangeburg community quickly filled the gym.

Hilary Clinton had familiar faces such as Starr Jones, Karen Civil, K. Michelle and Congressman Jim Clyburn speak on her policies and her as an individual before she entered the stage. “44 boys is enough, it’s time for madam president” said Starr Jones. As Congressman Jim Clyburn gave his speech he reminded the audience of what she has done for the United States without having the role as President “No one has run for president with such an extensive résumé.”

(K. Michelle)

Majority of students entered the rally undecided, however after hearing her policies some decision were made that very moment. “Personally I felt like she did a wonderful job getting her point across, it didn’t feel like it was rehearsed it was very personal. I came here undecided but now I’m leaning more toward Hilary. She made great talking points that I can relate to especially health care and trying to get out of school without debt.” London Knight Senior.              (Congressmen Jim Clyburn)

The Breaking Down Barriers Rally had a very good turn out, students were star struck when given the opportunity to get selfies with Hilary Clinton and K Michelle. Hilary Clinton is now preparing for her campaign trail for Super Tuesday.

What is Pinterest?

"Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share, and discover new interests by posting (known as 'pinning' on Pinterest) images or videos to their own or others' boards (i.e. a collection of 'pins,' usually with a common theme) and browsing what other users have pinned" -infront.com

Pinterest has more than 12 million users in the United States. It is now the third most visited websites. The most popular category on Pinterest is the "food and drink" with 11.9 percent of pins, followed by "DIY" (Do It Yourself) and crafts’ 9.2 percent and "home décor" 5.9 percent.

How do business benefit from Pinterest?

  • 25% of Fortune Global 100 companies have Pinterest accounts.
  • Pinterest pins with prices get 36% more likes than those without.
  • 43% of Pinterest members agree that they use Pinterest to “associate with retailers or brands with which I identify”, compared to just 24% of Facebook users who agree to the same use with Facebook.
  • The survey, which interviewed 7,431 online buyers from August 9 to 17 2012, also found that significantly more online consumers agree that Pinterest is a place to “get inspiration on what to buy” and “help keep track of or collect things I like.”
My views on Pinterest!

I love Pinterest! Any potential project that I may have questions about it, I am able to find a solution on Pinterest. I have a total of 35 boards ranging in topics from hair, nails, food, fashion and work out tips to name a few. If I'm trying to find a last minute do it yourself gift, or a new recipe I am able to locate it on Pinterest! So if you don't have one, then what are you waiting for?! Let's start pinning!

Laan Told Me

She sat in class chatting with her friends as her conversation echoed across the room. Wearing a grey SC State crewneck and a khaki SC State hat Jaylaan seemed very alert and prepared to start her day. The 20-year-old Charleston native is a 2013 graduate of Goose Creek High school were she participated in the ROTC program.

Despite the early morning workout calls her love and dedication for ROTC earned her a scholarship from the Bulldog Battalion, where she is now ranked as a MS3. "Being involved with them was challenging at first because it's my first real taste of the Army life, its a whole lifestyle change. It's kinda hard balancing Army life and college life at the same time but you get use to it after a while."

Not only is she a member of The Bulldog Battalion, Jaylaan is apart of the South Carolina State University Student Government Association Student Senate. They tackle issues in the constitution and eliminate any loopholes. Every home basketball game you can expect to see Jaylaan on the floor at the basketball game keeping the crowd entertained at halftime and timeout opportunity.
Balancing ROTC, SGA, and hosting basketball game seems like a to carry but she seems to be handling it flawlessly. Upon graduation in May 2017, Jaylaan plans to continue the army lifestyle. Once she graduates she will be commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. She plans to enter the signal corp which is the technical side of the army. Her end goal is to own her own radio station.

Let's Tweet!

What is Twitter? A social media app that allows each user to express their thoughts with 140 characters. The creator of this was Jack Dorsey, a native of St. Louis. He taught him self how to build cpu programs before he was a teenager and he was hired to create a dispatch system after hacking into one. After his twitter app soared he began working on another brilliant idea, which was Square.
Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging that has altered the way that people communicate with each other. You are able to "tweet" via text message, cpu or the actual app itself.
Some people use twitter to communicate with with friends, others use it to advertise business or blogs but most people use twitter to keep up with the latest news in real time. The newly added "moments" feature allows users to be updated with any news breaking story within seconds. Twitter is one of my favorite apps that I enjoy using. It forces me to get my sarcasm across with less than 140 characters, so to see what I'm tweeting about make sure you follow me

What is LinkedIn?

  • LinkedIn gives each user the opportunity to build a professional online résumé it gives each user the ability to stay in contact with classmates, colleagues and direct access to job opportunities.
  • According to Business Insider 31.2% of LinkedIn users are between the ages of 25-34 years old. LinkedIn is the same format of FaceBook except is strictly for business purposes, it's a virtual résumé constantly gives updated. LinkedIn is so popular because top companies such as IBM, HP, Microsoft, Accenture, Google, Oracle, Deloitt, Apple, Dell, Cisco use it to find potenial employees.
  • Features that I enjoy about Linkedin is the layout, it's not too cluttered and everything is easily accessible and readable. I like the idea of putting your aspirations next to your profile picture because that is the first thing that companies see, along with your professional picture. Lastly, I enjoy the endorsement option, having people endorse your skills and talent's speak volume to your potential employer.
  • While viewing other LinkedIn accounts I noticed that majority of them were the same, following the LinkedIn format, I did stumble across a page and the user had her LSAT scores posted. Another page had a direct link to his most current project. I believe that accounts with a strong paragraph discussing their experience is awesome, nothing to cluttered because it won't be visually appealing.
  • On my LinkedIn my goal is to show that I am well versed in the Broadcasting field, I also want to covey that while excelling in school I am member of various organizations and I'm an advocate for community service. I will show poteinal job opportunites that I am well versed and I am able to juggle mulitple jobs flawlessly.
